snow fell in shards to cut the dry pavement and muffle echoes like silence like soft like shattering.

icy hands crept around warm, pulsing throats
and screams remained genderless
in a woolen handknit
lie.

radiators dripping spoonfuls of wasted heat rise
temperature
and tempered her
and the edges were no longer soft.
